Designing for your “Furbabies”

They make our homes complete. The amazing love and fulfilment they provide us is immeasurable. Although, some of their supplies can be a challenge to keep organized. Here are a few tips and tricks to help keep puppy and kitty items (and rodents and reptiles and…) organized!

Keep their items together

Baskets, Bins or Hanging Shelves are a great way to keep pet items wrangled and easily accessible. Over the door “Shoe Holders” are an inexpensive way to keep grooming accessories, medicines and other items tucked away and organized. Baskets or hooks near the main entrance help keep leashes and outdoor items at the ready.

Feeding time

Large or small, keep their dry food safe in air tight bins, with a scoop attached to the bin with a removable hook. If cabinet space is prime real estate, there are several affordable options for cute canisters and lidded jars in stores or online. Utilize baskets for canned food and daily supplements, and keep treats handy with one of those cute canisters because after all, those are the most important items in the house.

Hide it away

Utilize an inexpensive plastic or metal shelving system (self contained or wall mounted) that is hidden away in a closet, mud room or garage area. Here you are able to store all of your little ones’ goodies. Large unopened bags of dry food, kitty litter, bins of clothes or blankets, etc. will all be easy to access and look through.

If you are able to have a fully dedicated cabinet for your critters, make the most of it by putting magnetic strips inside or using magnetic paint on the inside of the doors. This will allow you to magnetize anything you’d like that you use frequently and have it ready to go. If you have a metal cabinet, use it as is or place several magnetic accessories (hooks, shelving, small baskets) inside to help customize the space to your needs.

Having these organizational solutions in place will help you maximize your time to go for walks with them, have play time, or simply soak up some snuggles.

Nice. Good ideas. I also reuse ice cream buckets to store pet food after opening the large bags. It makes the easier to store and keeps the pets from getting into it.
